We grabbed Wilton "zews" Prado to talk about the nail-biting best-of-five grand final with G2, as well as the upcoming ELEAGUE.
First of all, let's go through the grand final, and I do want to get to the map picks, especially because both teams won each other's picks - can you run us through the maps overall and what you expected beforehand? To be honest, we thought the map pool actually favoured us, because we have a broader map pool. But each player had a bad moment in each map, so we weren't playing our best, so we just had to kind of pull through it. On Overpass we had a great lead but started making some stupid mistakes, gave the lead up and let them pick up the first map. Our emotions went a bit down. We just had to come back up, second map was Train, which they picked, but that's OUR map, the whole world knows that Train is one of LG's best maps. We had learned from our mistakes against them, we knew that they like to hold fast rushes and then we could go later on in the round, just take it to the very end. We managed to have a really good T side against this time. I want to touch on Train a bit in terms of your morale - it was 11-4 once again on your CT side, but they started coming back again similarly to the group stage match, was that in the back of your head at that point?I didn't think it was gonna go the same way, but we started having some flashbacks from that match for sure. But we just had to take a step back and remember why we lost, we had studied that match. Once we saw which mistakes we were making and we remembered how we had agreed to play, we ended up being back on track and it was quite easy to remember what we had to do. Once we did that it was okay. Then we went to another of our maps, which was Cobblestone. There we started off sort of OK, our T side wasn't the best, it was OK. On our CT side we had a new scheme, but we didn't have the money to keep doing our new platform control that we wanted. It got pretty hard, and again, we didn't do what we talked about before the game. I don't know why for this whole best-of-five, we couldn't remember what we wanted to do in the middle of the game. And after that, we had to play Dust2, which everyone said was our worst map and there was no way we could win it. Before we had a pep talk, like "we can push through this, this is the champions mentality, we have to do it". And we started playing more loosely, FalleN went huge on that map with coldzera. On Inferno we knew we wouldn't lose it, we almost let it go in the end, some crucial rounds. We lost 1-on-4 in overtime, just some stupid mistakes we never make, I don't know why. FalleN wasn't feeling very well today, each player had their moments. Not taking anything away from G2, but it wasn't the best performance we could've had and that's why we're so happy with this one. Now we have to analyze our mistakes in the map pool. Playing against G2 is kinda hard, because they have such good aim and they're really explosive, they do it very simple. It reminds me of EnVyUs, but they are doing it way better, because they know where the lurkers are. They played really really well at this tournament, so congratulations to them. You've obviously earned your place as the best team in the world at the moment, do you think it's going to be hard to maintain once both GuardiaN and olofmeister are back on their feet?It depends on when they come back, they're amazing players, the best in the world - GuardiaN is back, that I know, so NaVi are going to get pretty scary again. But olof, we don't know when he's coming back, if you stay away from the game for too long you get out of rhythm a bit. If they want to be the fnatic that is scary to everyone, that's always dominant, I don't know if it's going to be instant, I hope for the best for him. NaVi are our rivals, every time we beat them it was because GuardiaN didn't have a good wrist, so we're just looking forward to our next match and try to keep our rivalry up with him.Lastly I want to touch on ELEAGUE as your next event, what do you think of the whole format, which is quite innovative? We really have to see how it goes, I can't speak before we actually experience it. I think they're trying to adapt what's best for TV and what's best for the audience, so I can't really say anything negative about it. From what I understood you can win group in first place but lose the semi-finals and you're out. That can be tough, depending on the team you face for an upset, but let's just hope that the best teams win and we can get the best LAN finals we can get.Luminosity have solidified their place as the world's best team by winning the $512,000 ESL Pro League Season 3 Finals over the surprise of the tournament, G2.
zews talks Pro League grand final and more
We managed to grab their coach, Wilton "zews" Prado, for an interview which goes through all maps in depth, as well as their position as the world's best team and the upcoming ELEAGUE:
